Session Summary, Hemodynamic Session, Video 3
The pulmonary embolism response team (PERT) is similar to a shock team in that it comprises an echocardiographer and cardiac surgeon, but the PERT includes an interventional radiologist instead of an interventional cardiologist. This team approach is mobilized when there is a diagnosed PE with hemodynamic instability. The institution of ECMO can buy time while the team decides between surgical embolectomy and thrombolytic therapy. There is an enormous resurgence of interest in getting the interventional community involved in the management of shock patients.
